 Re: Nvidia Fermi Octane Competition
Hi,
The GPU-X is a self-powered expansion box that allows you to add 2x additional PCI-E slots externally to your existing PC, without any hardware modifications. It requires a PCI-E slot in your PC to connect it to.

 Re: Nvidia Fermi Octane Competition
right. which sounds pretty usefull. but the picture labeled as the gpu-x is not a gpu-x.
I just wanted to let you know. I'm sorry if I wasn't as clear as I could be in my other post.

 Re: Nvidia Fermi Octane Competition
Lip ServiceThought I would just go ahead and break the ice here... My first try with the new beta. The idea was to start with some simple geometry without too many different materials. I re-rendered, as I changed the metal part to look more metallic - that gold color wasn't cutting it. For those that want to take a peak at my original mental ray version, it can be seen here: http://phr0sty.deviantart.com/art/Lip-Service-132660315. Render time: 27min 8sec Resolution: 1280x640 Tris: 732,627 8000 s/p

 Re: Nvidia Fermi Octane Competition
Darn i need time for something like this ... no fair... @Phr0stByte I like that, if you could break up the "perfection", the realism would benfit, currently it's a very saturated, perfect metal. Have look at this http://images.celebrateexpress.com/mgen ... /49961.jpgSee how the microfacets break up highlights and reflection ? Maybe you can add some nice maps Currently there is no support for anisotropic metal, but thats okay. Metal also tends to have less colors if polished (since they got most colors from the surrounding environment but 730k polys ... thats a hell lot polys for a cylindrical shaped object, adjacent faces could have less divisions i guess .. Looking forward to see more

 Re: Nvidia Fermi Octane Competition
@ MDkai - Yeah, I did not bother to clean up the geometry after smoothing. I found that you need to smooth it to much in order not to see faceting in Octane. I would really like to see some geometry smoothing in future versions.
